Getting around CES: Take the Monorail!

With CES spread between demo suites in the Venetian and the ajoining Sands Convention Center, the Las Vegas convention Center and the LV Hilton, getting around is one of the biggest challenges. Cab lines are a nightmare and most people come to CES without a car, so how to get from one place to the next?

The LV Monorail is the only way! They have a special for CES where you can get a one day unlimited pass for just $9!

Although give yourself a good amount of time (like 30 minutes) if you’re coming from (or going to) the Venetian as it dumps you off 2 casinos over at Harrah’s. And if you’re doing it after dark, bring a coat ’cause you’ll be walking outside for about 10 minutes.

Party buzz: Spot to be Monday night was the Intel party at the Palms Hotel’s club Rain

I hear the band Smashmouth performed there tonight. A natural considering the lead singer made a guest appearance during CEO Paul Otellini’s keynote today as reported by the SF Chronicle.

Ironic to come to Las Vegas from the Bay Area to have a band from San Jose be the party headliner.

I think my invite got lost in the mail.

TAO at the Venetian: Tips to getting in free…or at least skipping the line

The food at Tao in the Venetian is very good (definately order the stuffed shrimp appetizer), but it’s the environment itself that gets the highest marks from me.

If you’re dining at Tao, here are some tips for getting in Tao nightclub for free…ar at least skipping an houre more more wait in line.

1) Try your best to dine with at least 1 girl to every guy, if at all possible. If so, at the end of your meal, they’ll send the table service hostess over to stamp each guy/girl set with line passes. Depending on when you arrive, this line pass can save you an hour’s wait in line

2) If you’re staying at the Venetian, look for the line that says “Venetian guests”, its much faster. If you’re not staying at the Venetian, I suggest making friends with someone who is. :-)

3) For ladies, at the front hostess desk, they have free VIP passes food for 2 admittions. They have one that works for Wednesday nights and another (different) one that works Thurs, Fri and Sat.

Tao plays a pretty good mix of new and old hip-hop and pop music until late night, when I’ve been told they change over to house music.

Here’s me and my STS Wireless CTO, Hans, at TAO Nightclub

If you’re lucky enough to be with a group….or client….or customer, who wants to spring for bottle service, ask for Sammy. She’s a good friend of a friend and she was kind enough to let us sneak in to the VIP area:

Cool things at CES: GuitarHero fans can “play” for real with Guitar Wizard

One of the coolest things I’ve seen at CES, I actually caught wind of through Engadget’s educational video on the Guitar Wizard. Engadget describes it as “like Guitar Hero, but useful”, which is a great way to say that its a video-game like interface that can actually help you learn to play the guitar. ROCKIN!

Man, I wish I would have heard about this product before Chirtmas. But hey, my birthday’s in February…

Looking for a break?

Word has it that Natasha Bedingfield will be preforming at the Concierge Center at 4 p.m. today.

Heard that everyone from the likes of Kevin Costner to Danica Patrick are in town this week. What celebrities have you spotted at the show?
